Crypto.com cards: tiers, rewards, and fees
Crypto.com cards link tier-based crypto rewards to prepaid spending or, for approved US applicants, a credit line. Level Up determines reward eligibility, while funding charges, spending caps, and borrowing costs affect value. Prepaid and credit programs use different reward schedules, so the card colour alone cannot establish a purchase reward.
In short: An active Level Up plan determines spending rewards, while prepaid funding fees and credit borrowing costs can reduce their net benefit.
Level Up plans and physical card tiers
Four Level Up plans organize the reward program: Basic, Plus, Pro, and Private, with card colours reflecting the associated tiers. Basic corresponds to Midnight Blue, and Plus to Ruby Steel. Pro covers Jade Green and Royal Indigo. Private includes Icy White, Frosted Rose Gold, and Obsidian, with different required commitments of Cronos (CRO) tokens.
Membership and physical card tier can diverge. After a downgrade, certain prepaid ATM allowances remain tied to the existing card tier.
Prepaid balances and US credit approval
The prepaid card spends money that you load beforehand; the US Visa Signature credit card uses a bank-approved borrowing limit. The prepaid product does not require a credit check, although application approval and account verification still apply. Comenity Capital Bank issues the credit card, subject to approval. Credit applicants must be at least 18 years old, and New York residents cannot apply. Level Up membership does not determine the bank’s credit limit or approval decision.
Prepaid programs operate in multiple markets, with Visa cards and a Mastercard program for Bahrain and selected Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets. Their funding currencies and fee schedules differ. A cryptocurrency top-up converts supported cryptocurrency into the card’s fiat currency before spending. The merchant receives a card payment without needing to accept the cryptocurrency that funded it.
Subscriptions, lockup, and staking
Plus and Pro offer subscription or CRO commitment routes, while Private requires a qualifying CRO lockup or stake. Basic requires neither.
US credit-card reward terms dated September 2, 2025 list Plus subscriptions at US$4.99 monthly or US$49.99 yearly, and Pro at US$29.99 monthly or US$299.99 yearly. The US Level Up offer lists US$49.90 and US$299.90 yearly instead; confirm the subscription charge before paying. These membership charges are separate from card usage fees. The prepaid card has no regular monthly or annual card fee, and the US credit card has no additional annual card fee. Prices differ by market. US credit-card terms require Plus, Pro, and Private members to maintain the qualifying paid plan or CRO commitment for 12 months from account opening.
US CRO qualification requires US$500 worth of CRO for Plus, US$5,000 for Pro, US$50,000 for Icy/Rose, and US$500,000 for Obsidian. The CRO route normally carries a 365-day holding period, with jurisdiction determining whether lockup or staking applies. Staking uses validators on the Cronos proof-of-stake chain and exposes the stake to validator-related penalties, known as slashing. Its estimated return applies to committed CRO, separately from purchase rewards. Unstaking also involves a network unbonding period; the holding period’s end does not itself return staked tokens to the wallet.
A subscription upgrade cannot release CRO before an existing holding period ends. Increasing a CRO commitment to upgrade restarts the 365-day holding period.
Card reward rates and monthly spending caps
The prepaid Plus plan earns 1.5% on the first US$750 of qualifying monthly purchases, and Pro earns 2.5% on the first US$1,500. The Icy/Rose Private tier earns 3.5% on the first US$3,000, then 0.5%. Obsidian earns 4.5% on the first US$5,000, then 1%. These limits apply to eligible monthly purchase value in USD or its local-currency equivalent. Basic has no ordinary prepaid spending reward.
Prepaid reward spending allowances reset at 00:00 UTC on the first day of each calendar month. An allowance describes eligible purchase value, rather than a fixed quantity of CRO. Eligible cardholders in France, Germany, and Italy can choose Bitcoin rewards, which have different rates and spending allowances.
US credit-card purchase rewards
The US credit program pays CRO rewards of 1.5% for Basic, 3.5% for Plus, 4.5% for Pro, 5% for Icy/Rose, and 6% for Obsidian, without monthly or annual reward caps. Eligible-purchase restrictions still apply. These credit rates do not carry over to a prepaid card with the same colour. US credit cardholders can instead choose BTC rewards. The same tier percentages apply to eligible monthly spending of up to US$250 for Basic, US$500 for Plus, US$1,000 for Pro, US$5,000 for Icy/Rose, and US$10,000 for Obsidian. Above those thresholds, BTC rewards fall to 1% for Basic and 2% for the other tiers.
Which purchases earn prepaid CRO rewards?
Merchant category codes and payment channels determine prepaid CRO reward eligibility, even when the card successfully processes a purchase. Transactions classified as utilities, insurance, rent, or financial account funding fall within excluded merchant categories. The classification comes from the payment transaction, so an item’s description alone does not establish eligibility. Some market restrictions also prevent the payment itself, independently of reward exclusions.
The US credit card has its own exclusions, including cash advances, balance transfers, interest, and fees. Its rewards apply to net eligible purchases after returns and adjustments.
Top-up charges, foreign currency, and cash access
Prepaid funding costs depend on the payment method and issuing market, while ATM and foreign transaction fees arise when spending the balance.
Adding funds to the card
Cash balances and crypto conversion
Supported Cash Account transfers and cryptocurrency conversion provide prepaid funding routes. US cards hold USD; EU and UK cards use EUR and GBP, respectively. For these programs, money that you load onto the card cannot move directly back to the Cash Account. Auto Top-Up converts a selected supported cryptocurrency when the relevant card balance falls below the chosen threshold. A separate linked-wallet route through Cronos or Cronos zkEVM can involve token swaps, with additional fees and slippage before fiat conversion.
Another payment card
US prepaid top-ups charge 1% with a debit card, 2.99% with a credit card, and 2.1% through PayPal. EU and UK credit/debit card top-ups charge 1%. The funding card’s issuer may impose additional charges.
ATM withdrawals and overseas purchases
US prepaid ATM withdrawals above the card’s monthly fee-free allowance incur a 2% fee; ATM operators may add their own charges. US Midnight, Ruby, Jade, and Indigo prepaid cards charge 3% on non-USD purchases and ATM withdrawals. Icy, Rose, and Obsidian waive that foreign transaction fee. The US credit card has a separate 3% foreign transaction fee. A higher reward tier therefore needs comparison against the applicable overseas spending charge.
US physical Midnight cards cost US$4.99 to issue. Physical Ruby issuance costs US$29.99 for Plus monthly subscribers with fewer than six consecutive subscription months and no active CRO lockup or stake. From September 1, 2026, US prepaid inactivity costs US$5.95 monthly after 12 months without qualifying cardholder activity. Declined and refunded transactions do not reset that inactivity period.
Prepaid application through reward credit
An approved prepaid card and loaded balance establish payment access; reward credit also requires an eligible purchase under an active reward-bearing plan.
| Prepaid stage | Account and payment requirements |
|---|---|
| Select the plan and submit the card application. | Completed App onboarding, an eligible market, residential address details, and any required plan qualification. |
| Receive the virtual card and add funds; activate any physical card before physical use. | Application approval and an available funding method; physical spending requires physical card activation. |
| Make the purchase using the loaded card balance. | Sufficient funds, merchant acceptance of the card network, and applicable transaction limits. |
| Review the purchase reward in the Token Wallet. | A qualifying purchase and an active eligible plan, with any spending cap accounted for. |
| Payment and reward records | Card transaction history records the purchase; the corresponding wallet entry records actual token credit. |
US applicants who cannot qualify for an offered credit card can switch their application to prepaid. That route still requires prepaid approval. If a funding method is unavailable, another supported method must establish the loaded balance before spending. For a missing reward, merchant classification and plan limits may explain the absence; in-app support can investigate an unexplained discrepancy.
Subscription rebates and airport lounge access
Prepaid subscription rebates require an eligible plan with annual subscription billing or an active CRO lockup or stake; monthly subscribers do not qualify. Eligible Plus rebates last three months, and Pro rebates last six months. Private retains rebates while eligible. Selected plans reimburse payments to Spotify, Netflix, and Truth+, within merchant-specific monthly limits. The card must cover the original subscription charge, and the rebate arrives separately in CRO.
Priority Pass access requires eligible Pro or Private membership through an annual subscription or active CRO commitment. Eligible Pro members receive two complimentary lounge visits or travel experiences per calendar year under changes effective September 1, 2026, or October 1, 2026 for EU, UK, and LATAM users. Earlier visits count toward that year’s allowance. Private retains unlimited personal access, with guests now requiring payment.
Lounge entry uses the Priority Pass Digital Membership Card and a boarding pass. Presenting the payment card alone no longer provides access. Registration and entry involve card pre-authorisation. Prepaid cardholders need sufficient funds for the check, and international usage must be enabled.
CRO reward amounts and borrowing costs
US credit-card rewards convert eligible purchase value into CRO using the applicable earning percentage and the App’s CRO price at purchase. The calculation multiplies purchase value by the reward rate, then divides by that CRO price. A later change in token price changes the cash value of the resulting reward balance. Initial credit-card reward displays can take up to two billing cycles to confirm.
A variable purchase annual percentage rate (APR) reflects creditworthiness and the Prime Rate. Interest or other borrowing charges can outweigh purchase rewards. When comparing tier value, distinguish purchase rewards from returns on locked or staked CRO: they use different calculation bases. Subscription fees, funding charges, and currency costs reduce the benefit that purchase rewards provide.
Plan changes, replacement cards, and renewal
Cancelling a paid subscription preserves benefits until the current billing cycle ends, after which the account returns to Basic. Without another qualifying plan, unlocking or unstaking CRO also returns membership to Basic. Keeping a premium-coloured prepaid card alone does not preserve the previous spending reward. Legacy Expedia, Airbnb, X, and Amazon Prime rebates ended on November 2, 2025, so an older perk description cannot establish a continuing benefit.
A physical prepaid upgrade requires a separate card upgrade request after the Level Up change. Requesting it closes the old card and produces a new card number, affecting saved merchant payment details. Address verification under review can block the upgrade, and a frozen old card prevents balance transfer. At expiry, any reissued prepaid card follows the active Level Up plan, which can differ from the expired card’s tier.
What readers ask about Crypto.com cards
Can I choose Bitcoin rewards on a Crypto.com prepaid card?
Eligible prepaid cardholders in France, Germany, and Italy can choose Bitcoin (BTC) spending rewards. Eligibility requires a phone number and card residential address from those countries, EU-issued identification, and an active Plus, Pro, or Private plan. BTC uses its own rate schedule; subscription rebates continue to pay CRO.
Why did my prepaid card fail to top up automatically?
Auto Top-Up needs sufficient funds in the selected Token Wallet balance and a card that is not frozen. Daily automatic funding limits also apply. Manual funding remains available after that automatic limit, subject to the card’s overall limits. For Singapore, European, and UK cards, the trigger uses the SGD, EUR, or GBP purse, respectively.
Does activating a physical prepaid card change saved online payment details?
Physical card activation updates the virtual card’s expiry date and security code to match the physical card. Previously saved virtual details may therefore need updating with merchants. This differs from a card upgrade, which changes the card number and closes the previous card, affecting its existing payment arrangements.
How does a refunded US credit-card purchase affect CRO rewards?
A refunded purchase can cause the associated CRO reward to be deducted from the reward balance. The adjustment uses the original CRO reward as its basis, rather than its later dollar value. A negative CRO balance is possible, and subsequent rewards first offset that negative balance before accumulating as a positive balance.
Are subscription rebates doubled when I hold both Crypto.com card types?
Holding both prepaid and US credit cards does not double the subscription rebates. The program permits one eligible rebate per merchant each month for Spotify, Netflix, and Truth+. The rebate period and entitlement still follow the qualifying Level Up plan, so a second card does not restart an expired benefit.
